Deposits, holds & payments
How holds work, what Mark received does, and how tax is handled across every method.
Cash and e-Transfer are first-class in Linebook, not an afterthought bolted onto a card processor. every method lands in the same ledger and tax is computed identically.
Holds
An e-Transfer holds a slot for 24 hours; cash holds for 48 hours.
Each deposit gets a reference code that ties the payment to the slot.
Unpaid holds reopen automatically, so a slot never sits dead waiting on money that isn't coming.
Mark received ✓
When you see a client's e-Transfer arrive, hit Mark received in Payments. It records the deposit, flips the booking to Confirmed, and emails the client their receipt — stats and finances recompute instantly.
Balances, tips & receipts
Record a balance or tip against a booking from its Manage screen (see Managing bookings). Cash and e-Transfer payments email the client a receipt automatically; card payments get Stripe's.
Every payment in the ledger links to the booking it settled, and the client's name links to their record — so when someone's paid in a few instalments, you can see what each one was for. Re-send any receipt with one tap.
Deposit status at a glance
The Payments page shows where each active booking stands — Awaiting deposit, Deposit paid · balance, or Paid in full — so you can see who still owes without hunting.
Send reminder re-sends the deposit instructions to a client who hasn't paid yet — a gentle nudge in one click.
NoteThe method a client picks in the booking wizard is remembered and pre-selected when they choose their time, so they're never asked twice.
NoteDeposits are prorated and non-refundable inside 48 hours of an appointment — clients are shown this up front.
Fixing mistakes & month-end
Typed the wrong amount, or the wrong artist? Void the entry from the ledger — it stays visible, struck through, with who voided it and why. Voided rows never count toward any total.
Cash from Saturday entered on Monday? Payments can be dated to when the money actually moved, so your months add up the way your bank does.
Tick each ledger row as matched once you've found it on your bank or Stripe statement — the ledger shows how many are still unmatched, so month-end has a finish line.
