Caring for your new tattoo
From Epøch Tattoo.
Healing takes about two weeks on the surface — give it time and keep it simple.
If you have a transparent film bandage
• A little liquid (plasma) under the film is normal and helps healing.
• Leave it on for 3–7 days. Keep it out of direct sun, and avoid heavy sweating, baths, pools and hot tubs — showering is fine.
• To remove: gently roll an edge and slowly peel it back, then wash the tattoo with warm, soapy water using your fingertips.
• From 24 hours after removal, apply a thin layer of fragrance-free moisturizer. Don't scratch or pick.
If you have a standard bandage
• Leave it on as your artist advised (2–24 hours), then wash gently with fragrance-free soap and warm water. Pat dry with a clean paper towel.
• Days 2–3: keep it clean, wear loose clothing, and skip moisturizer while it's still an open wound.
• From day 3 for a couple of weeks: wash a few times a day and apply a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion whenever it feels dry. Never pick at scabs or flaking skin.
Everyone
• No soaking (baths, pools, hot tubs, lakes, ocean) until it's fully peeled and no longer flaking.
• Avoid the sun while healing; once healed, high-SPF sunscreen keeps it looking sharp for years.
When to get help: see a doctor if you have increasing pain, spreading redness, a bad odour, thick yellow discharge, or a fever.
